We are a charitable organisation born out of the ambition to save the fabric of the church and to put the building at the centre of community life in Caerphilly.
Convenient to the Town Centre and within ten minutes’ walk of the Castle, Bus and Rail Stations, we host a number of local groups and organisations who meet at the Centre on a regular basis.
We have a number of flexible spaces available to hire and also host a well-supported series of concerts and performances throughout the year.
Parking is available at the nearby TWYN Car Park making us ideally suited at hosting a wide range of events.
We have three main spaces at the Centre, all available to hire for a wide range of uses. Find out more about each space below and contact us to find out about prices and availability.
A large, flexible space which can seat an audience of 150 for concerts and performing arts or can be cleared to provide activity space for such as Pilates, Yoga or Tai Chi.
In the worship area we have a Yamaha “Baby Grand” piano, a Yamaha P95 Digital Piano, and a Roland C380 Classical Digital Organ. Use of this area is also ideal for Conferences, Lectures and “Café” style meetings.
An access lift is also available between the ground floor and the Worship area.
The Meeting room is 49 square metres. It is situated on the ground floor accessed by the side entrance in Goodrich Street.
Recently restored, the meeting room provides a bright, airy venue for groups of 40 people set up for a lecture, or, as a conference venue can accommodate 20, and as a painting or craft class can cater for 12.
There is also an upright piano in the room.
There is an ample supply of tables and chairs.
The band room is 21.5 square metres, the room provides a more intimate venue for committee meetings or “One to One” interviews.
For a small lecture, the Band Room will seat 25 and as a committee venue will seat 12.
The organisation was born out of the ambition of the church to save the fabric of the church and to put the building at the centre of community life in Caerphilly.
A “Management Committee” was formed in 2003 and the Centre was granted Charitable Status in 2005 (Charity Registration Number 1109193). The Committee is made up of church and community members and it operates in a symbiotic relationship with the church and its eldership.
The early years were involved mainly with educational classes funded by the local authority, an amateur theatrical company (CWMPAS THEATRE) and art classes formed by members of our organisation. In recent years the Centre has become more involved with the performing arts by amateur and professional artists.
The lunchtime concerts offer older residents the chance to enjoy quality entertainment at a venue close to home and at a time which better suits their lifestyle. The evening performances reach a wider audience. The concerts are often used as fundraising opportunities either for the VAN-guard Centre itself, charities, or for the performers.
In the last fifteen years the building has undergone extensive restoration to the tune of £1,200,00.00.
There has been a worshipping congregation on the site for over 100 years (Van Road United Reformed Church). The church seeks to share the love of God and offers a warm welcome to all who choose to join. They worship each Sunday and occasionally during the week and a number of church groups also meet during the week along with a prayer and bible study group.
2022 sees us celebrate 20 years of the Vanguard Centre, with a number of events and celebrations lined up over the next 12 months.
These are just a few of the community groups and organisations that are based at the Vanguard…
